She coughed, spluttered, clawed at the edge of the canal.
Fought to stay afloat.
But something was pulling her down.
Hands all over her body, pulling at her clothes. They pulled her down, an inescapable weight.
Down.
Down.
Down.
Barbara sank beneath the water. The last oxygen escaping her panicked lungs.
But she did not black out.
She was completely lucid as the devils in the water held her, dragging her down to the dirty bottom of the canal where she would remain forever.
